SHERYLAND

Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Sheryland is a performing member of the Pittsburgh Samba Group. Sheryland has been dancing recreationally since childhood and professionally since 2006. Her goal as a teacher is to create a space for dancers to start or continue their dance journey – especially if it’s a new genre to them – by inspiring a playful glee that both deposits the fundamentals of movement with the invigorating joy of discovery regardless of body size, shape, gender, or ability.

Recent travels include expeditions to Santiago, Havana, Trinidad, and Holguin, Cuba, and a residency in Brazil (Rio de Janeiro and Salvador). While in Salvador in 2018, she competed in the 39th Noite da Beleza Negra hosted by Ilê Aiyê, making her the first foreigner and American to ever be approved to compete. Currently, she teaches Afro-Samba Fusion, Rio-style samba, samba fitness, and Stands Fusion.
